About Dr Sharif
Dr. Khalil Sharif was born in 1971 in a Palestinian refugee camp, where his family had lived after being displaced in 1948. He grew up in humble surroundings in a United Nations–provided home that had no heating or cooling, and he attended UN-run schools throughout his early education. Although his environment was challenging, he distinguished himself early as a dedicated and high-achieving student with a strong sense of discipline and curiosity.
His academic excellence earned him a scholarship to Bethlehem University, where he pursued his deep interest in physics. After completing his studies, he returned to education as a teacher, instructing middle and high school students in physics for four years and nurturing a passion for helping others understand science.
In 1999, Dr. Sharif moved to the United States to further his education at the University of Arkansas, specializing in microelectronics and photonics, a field that bridges physics and engineering. He earned both a master’s degree and a PhD. He later chose to remain in Northwest Arkansas, joining Northwest Arkansas Community College, where he now serves as a full professor.
Outside of academia, Dr. Sharif is a devoted family man, married with four children. He enjoys teaching, reading broadly across science, history, and religion, and spending time solving practical problems and developing new ideas. His journey reflects resilience, intellectual curiosity, and a lifelong commitment to education and growth.
